Sun protection for oily skin

Your acne marks aren't fading
because of the sun.

Every spot that heals leaves a mark, and UV is what turns that mark dark and makes it stay. Oily skin skips sunscreen because it feels heavy. This one is a weightless aqua-gel — so you actually wear it.

01 · The two numbers

SPF and PA measure two different kinds of light

SPF rates protection from UVB — the rays that burn. SPF 50 lets through roughly a fiftieth of the UVB that bare skin would take.

PA rates protection from UVA — the rays that go deeper, trigger pigment and age skin, and that come through clouds and windows. PA++++ is the highest grade on the scale. Most cheap sunscreens are strong on SPF and quiet about PA, which is the wrong way round for pigmentation.

Hyaluronic acid in the sunscreen
SPF 50
UVB — burning. About 98% blocked when applied properly
PA++++
UVA — pigment and ageing. The highest rating on the PA scale
FILTERS
Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide with modern organic filters — a hybrid, for broad cover without a cast
02 · Why oily skin skips it

The sunscreen you don't wear has an SPF of zero.

Thick creams sit on oily skin, pill under a T-zone and feel like a second layer of sebum. Older mineral formulas leave a grey cast on deeper skin. So people apply once, hate it, and stop — and the acid serum they are using at night then has no defence during the day.

A gel that hydrates with water rather than oil, absorbs in seconds and leaves no cast solves the reason people stop. That matters more than any number on the tube.

03 · The pathway

How a healed spot becomes a dark mark

STEP 1Surface · healing spot
Inflammation ends, pigment begins

As a spot heals, the inflammation leaves the melanocytes underneath on high alert.

STEP 2Deep layer · melanocyte
UV switches on pigment

UVA reaches those primed melanocytes and they build excess melanin — the flat brown mark that outlasts the spot by months.

Sunscreen gel texture
ACTS HERE
SPF 50 PA++++ blocks the UVB and UVA that trigger this step.
STEP 3Surface · ~4 weeks per layer
The mark rises and, slowly, sheds

Pigmented cells take about four weeks per layer to reach the surface. Without daily protection new pigment is made faster than old pigment leaves.

Aloe
ACTS HERE
Hyaluronic acid and aloe keep the surface hydrated so it sheds evenly and takes sunscreen without patchiness.
This is why every acne routine ends with sunscreen. Salicylic acid and vitamin C do their work at night and in the morning; UV undoes it by lunchtime without SPF.
04 · The texture

Why an aqua-gel

The formula hydrates with hyaluronic acid — which binds water, not oil — so it moisturises oily skin without adding shine or clogging. It sets to a soft, matte-ish finish that sunscreen-averse skin can live with, and it layers under makeup without pilling.

0white cast, fragrance or heavy oils — a gel that oily, acne-prone skin will actually wear every day.

06 · The honest timeline

What actually happens, and when

DAY 1
Protection, immediately
Sunscreen is the one product that works fully from the first application — as long as enough goes on.
WEEK 1
Less midday shine
Hydrating with water rather than oil, skin is less shiny than under a cream SPF.
WEEK 4–8
Marks fade faster
With UV blocked, the marks your other actives are treating stop being topped up and start to lift.
ONGOING
Fewer new marks
Spots that heal under daily SPF leave lighter marks that fade sooner. This is the long game.
07 · How to use it

Two fingers, every morning

01
Last step of the morning
After cleanser and any serum, before makeup. Give serums a minute to settle.
02
Two finger-lengths
Squeeze a line along two fingers for face and neck. That is the amount the SPF rating assumes; less gives less.
Two finger-lengths
03
Reapply outdoors
Every two to three hours in the sun, and after sweating or swimming. Indoors by a window, once in the afternoon.
EVERY DAY
Cloudy days, indoors by windows, and the commute all count — UVA comes through. If you are using salicylic acid, kojic acid or vitamin C, this is the product that decides whether they work.
