Acne & clogged pores

The spot you see today
started weeks ago.

A breakout begins as a plug of oil and dead skin cells deep inside the pore. Scrubs work on the surface. Salicylic acid is the one exfoliant that dissolves into oil and gets to the plug itself.

01 · The active

So what is salicylic acid?

It is a beta hydroxy acid — a close chemical relative of aspirin, originally taken from willow bark. Unlike glycolic or lactic acid, it is oil-soluble. That single property is the whole story.

Because it dissolves in oil, it can travel down into a pore full of sebum, loosen the dead cells stuck to its walls, and soften the plug that would have become a blackhead or a pimple.

Salicylic acid
FROM
Willow bark — now made pure and stable in the lab
DOES
Dissolves into sebum and loosens the plug inside the pore
SUITS
Oily, combination and acne-prone skin, including blackheads
02 · Why it keeps coming back

Oily skin refills the pore faster than it can empty.

Sebum is not the enemy — it protects the skin. But when a pore produces more oil than it can shed, the oil mixes with dead cells and sets like a cork. Bacteria that live happily on skin then multiply inside the sealed pore, and the body's response is the red, swollen spot.

Indian skin in a humid climate tends to sit at the oilier end, which is why the cycle repeats: clear one spot and the pore next to it is already filling.

03 · The pathway

Three steps make a pimple. This works at the first two.

Most spot treatments only calm step three — the redness. By then the plug has already done its work.

STEP 1Inside the pore · lining
Dead cells stick together

Skin cells lining the pore should shed one by one. In acne-prone skin they clump and stick to the walls.

Serum texture
ACTS HERE
2% Salicylic Acid loosens the bonds between those cells so the pore can clear itself.
STEP 2Inside the pore · sebum
Oil seals the plug

Sebum binds the clumped cells into a plug. Open to air it darkens into a blackhead; sealed over, it becomes a whitehead.

ACTS HERE
Being oil-soluble, salicylic acid dissolves into the sebum and softens the plug from within.
STEP 3Surface · inflammation
The spot appears

Bacteria multiply in the blocked pore and the skin responds with redness and swelling. This is the only stage you can see — and the last one.

Cucumber extract soothes
Cucumber extract and Natural Biome-Boost™ are in the formula for the surface: soothing, and support for the barrier while the acid works underneath.
04 · The number

Why 2%, and not more

Two per cent is the highest strength permitted in over-the-counter acne products, and the strength with the longest track record. Above it you gain irritation, not results. This serum sits at the ceiling and is buffered so it exfoliates without stripping.

2%of salicylic acid — the over-the-counter ceiling for leave-on acne treatment.

06 · The honest timeline

What actually happens, and when

WEEK 1
Skin feels smoother
Surface texture changes first. A few skins see a small flush of spots as already-clogged pores clear — that settles.
WEEK 2–3
Blackheads soften
Plugs that were open to air loosen and lift. The nose and chin usually show it first.
WEEK 4–6
Fewer new spots
Pores that would have clogged are clearing before they seal. This is where most people notice the breakout cycle slowing.
WEEK 8+
Marks fade
With fewer new spots, the older post-acne marks get a chance to fade. Daily sunscreen decides how quickly.
07 · How to use it

Two to three drops, at night

01
Cleanse, then wait
On dry skin after washing. Damp skin lets acids in faster than most people want.
Cleanse first
02
Thin layer, whole zone
Two to three drops across the oily or breakout-prone areas — not just on the spots you can see.
Two to three drops
03
Alternate nights at first
Every other night for two weeks, then nightly if your skin is comfortable. Moisturise after.
EVERY MORNING
Wear sunscreen. Exfoliated skin burns faster, and UV is what turns a healing spot into a lasting dark mark. Without SPF you are trading breakouts for pigmentation.
