Kojic
Acid

Kojic acid comes from the same fermentation family as sake and soy. It targets tyrosinase — the enzyme that makes pigment — which is why it is the classic choice for tan and sun-spots on Indian skin.
By slowing tyrosinase it reduces how much new pigment forms, so existing tan lifts as skin turns over.
Regular use softens the contrast between tanned and untanned areas around the hairline, jaw and neck.
In a face wash the exposure is brief and daily, which suits skins that find leave-on brighteners too strong.
Tan responds in about 3–4 weeks with daily use. Longer-standing pigmentation needs 8 weeks or more, and sunscreen every single morning.
Strong exfoliants on the same day, at first. Kojic acid can sensitise some skins. Introduce it alone for two weeks before adding acids.
